Emoji Copy and Paste Guide
Short answer: To copy an emoji, select the emoji or use a PrintEmoji copy button, then paste it into any app that supports Unicode text. If an emoji appears as a box, the receiving device or app likely lacks font support for that emoji version.
How copying emojis works
Emojis are Unicode text. When you copy 😀 Grinning Face from PrintEmoji, the clipboard receives the emoji character, not a screenshot. That means it can be pasted into messages, documents, forms, captions and code where Unicode text is accepted.
PrintEmoji also provides HTML entities, CSS escapes and JavaScript strings on detail pages when you need developer-friendly formats instead of the visible emoji.
Desktop and mobile steps
Windows
Use the PrintEmoji copy button or press Windows + . to open the system emoji panel.
macOS
Use the copy button or press Control + Command + Space to open Character Viewer.
iPhone and Android
Use the phone emoji keyboard, or copy from PrintEmoji in the browser and paste into the target app.
Troubleshooting
- If the emoji pastes as a square box, update the device, browser or app.
- If clipboard permission is blocked, manually select the emoji and copy it.
- If an emoji sequence separates into parts, the target app may not support the full sequence yet.
- If color or style changes, that is normal platform rendering.
